The Unpopular Opinions Book Tag 2.0

I’ve been giving a lot of two stars to books as of lately so I’m just gonna cleanse my hate. I wasn’t tag so oops.

A POPULAR BOOK OR BOOK SERIES THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE

Alright so I read books 1-2 and I actually enjoyed myself reading these. Chaol was my everImage result for throne of glass seriesything and I was looking forward to Heir of Fire. Hell, I bought the book at Barnes and Noble and that shit was expensive. But when I read like the first quarter I was B.O.R.E.D. Then I tried reading the Assassin’s Blade and I was like “why does this exist?” I took a break and then like 3 years later I still never continued, I got rid of the books, and I don’t miss it because I heard the author shits on all the OG characters so nope I’m good. I didn’t really like anybody but Chaol anyway :/ Also, the author’s rep isn’t that good anymore too so yup bye.

25701463I had very high hopes for this one but was extremely disappointed. The main character loved girl hate way too much and was petty for no reason.

A POPULAR BOOK OR BOOK SERIES THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO HATE BUT YOU LOVE.

26025580This has under a 3.5 star rating on Goodreads and I’m not sure why. Do I give Gillian Flynn too much credit for her work? Perhaps. But I loved this little short story. I read it super fast and I was wrong about the plot twist. I love how GF makes fun of the paranormal genre in this book. I would recommend but I feel like I’m the minority in this one yikes

A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn people for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don’t like.

13597723I can shit on this series for days. The love triangle in this is soooooooooo dumb. I hated the main character, I hated both of the guys, both sides were full on insta love. I usually don’t mind love triangles and insta love but god damn this was all trash.

POPULAR AUTHOR THAT YOU CAN’T SEEM TO GET INTO.

Sarah J Maas and John Green (old answer but still true)

A Genre You Hardly Reach For

This always changes. I feel like I haven’t been reading a lot of fantasy or at least any good fantasy. I also don’t read a lot of historical fiction. I wanna change that though so any recs for fantasy and historical fiction would be nice!

A POPULAR BOOK TROPE THAT YOU’RE TIRED OF SEEING

I have so many okay okay. The Ineffective/Horrible Therapist like bye. We should not be promoting that thank you very much. Also, Love Cures Mental Illness. Gee why am I majoring in Psych if mental illness already has a fucking cure. Also, I still hate the whole characters withholding information crap to protect other characters. SO unnecessary. I basically hate all the black tropes {my post here}.

A POPULAR SERIES THAT YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN READING.

Image result for a court of thorns and roses seriesMy friends in the real world keeps telling me to read this but I’m like NOO THIS DOESN’T INTEREST ME LEAVE ME ALONE YOU CAN READ AND LOVE THIS AND I’M GLAD YOU DO BUT STOP FORCING THIS SHIT ON ME THANK YOU

GRUMPY CAT” —A BOOK YOU HAVE NEGATIVE FEELINGS ABOUT.

The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines

Image result for grumpy cat book meme

Ugh, I have several reasons why I despised this book including the characters, the cheating, the slut shaming, the possessiveness. Definitely not a great reading experience  .

“WHAT IF I TOLD YOU” — A BOOK YOU SPOILED FOR YOURSELF.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Image result for what if I told you book meme

I was a bit late to the Hunger Games hype and so after I finished reading Catching Fire, I was kind of over it and looked up what happens on Wikipedia (despite the fact that I read it anyways).

“I DON’T ALWAYS MAN” — A BOOK YOU DON’T ALWAYS LIKE, BUT WHEN YOU’RE READING IT YOU DO.

The Ramona Quimbly Series by Beverly Cleary

Image result for i dont always book meme

Reading these as a kid, I absolutely adored these books. I believe I read them all. However, thinking about it now, these books were just okay and Ramona was kind of a brat.

But I still enjoy this series because it’s ridiculous and entertaining!

“90’S SPIDERMAN” — A GOOD CLASSIC OR RETRO BOOK THAT’LL NEVER GET OLD.

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

Image result for 90s spiderman book meme

When I’m at home, I always go look at the passages and quotes I tabbed. I don’t know why but I really love this book and it’s one of my all time favorites. The themes of innocence and death colliding is haunting but compelling.

“MARCHING BAND MEMES” — A BOOK THAT’S VERY RELATABLE.

Suicide Notes by Michael Thomas Ford

I was really at a dark time when reading this and I related to the main character a whole lot. Although it’s humorous, all what the character went through in the book is what I went through and still struggling with.

“DEMOTIVATIONAL” —A BOOK THAT YOU’VE SEEN ALMOST EVERYWHERE.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I mean, the book hasn’t even come out yet and it already has a 4.7 rating on Goodreads. This is everyone’s most anticipated book, including mine, and I can’t wait to read it!!!

“YOU DON’T SAY” —A PREDICTABLE BOOK.

An okay YA contemporary series I read years ago.

“ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY” — ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY BINGE READ THE ENTIRE BOOK. (A BOOK YOU BINGE READ.)

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

Image result for one does not simply book meme

Again, every tag I do, I mention my queen. I read Dark Places in one sitting and I love love LOVED it. It’s my favorite by her because I love stories about controversial cases. Libby was such an intriguing character and so were the side characters that we were introduced to. Highly Recommend!

“CHEMISTRY CAT”— A BOOK THAT TAUGHT YOU SOMETHING NEW.

None of the Above by I.W Gregorio

Image result for chemistry cat book meme

I learned a lot about intersex from this book. It’s extremely educational and the author clearly put in a lot of research. Not the best story plot wise, but if you wanna learn what intersex actually is, I recommend None of the Above.

“PET MEMES” — A BOOK THAT’S JUST REALLY ADORABLE.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by  Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Image result for book pet meme

I just recently finished this book and I’m still thinking about how amazing Aristotle and Dante were. I just loved their relationship. I read this on audiobook and I’m pretty sure people gave me weird stares since I was smiling A LOT (listen to this on my way to classes)

The Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

Yay, tag time! I was tagged by Beth over at readingeverynight. You can find here post {here}. Thank you so much for tagging me! I love Disney and The Beauty and the Beast (and I’m so excited for the live-action film aaaah).

The creator of the tag: @Kirstyandthecatread

RULES

  • Thank the person who tagged you.
  • Mention the creator; Kirsty at Kirsty and the Cat Read.
  • Match a book to each of the songs/characters below.
  • Tag as many people as you like.

“Tale As Old As Time”
A popular theme, trope or setting you will never get bored of reading.
Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms, #1)

Power Hungry trope and the Love/Hate Trope

I don’t know why, but I love fantasy books where there’s characters fighting for power, a crown etc. This all began with me watching Reign and then I started seeking out books with this same premise, Falling kingdoms, Mistborn, etc. I also love slow burning love/hate relationships because it reminds me of a childhood ship I used to have from Total Drama Island, DuncanxCourtney. Books that had these are Falling Kingdoms, Mistborn (sort of), Poison Study and basically every other YA book out there lmao.

Dark PlacesBelle: A book you brought for its beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful inside too.

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.

Okay okay maybe I wouldn’t define this story to be “beautiful” BUT perhaps “hauntingly beautiful?” I love this cover and this story.

10956Beast: A book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you.

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides.

Wow, I really didn’t expect to love this book but it became easily one of my favorites of all time. My senior year english teacher made us pick and read a modern lit book and I chose this one simply because it was the only one I owned from the list. Best decision ever! The book explores the themes of innocence, superficial vision and isolation and I really enjoyed reading those topics. The books was sad and a tad but peculiar, but I highly recommend (I’ll probably include this in my mini review series!).

The Naturals (The Naturals, #1)Gaston:
A book everyone loves that you don’t.

The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Yeah, this was not my cup of coffee. Compelling plot with trashy characters *sigh*. A lengthy review will be up shortly regarding this book!

Lefou:
Tales from the Shadowhunter AcademyA loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counterpart.

Simon from the Mortal Instruments.

Honestly, I think Clary is garbage and I wish the series was just in his point of view.

Jane EyreMrs Potts, Chip, Lumière & Cogsworth:
A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Jane Eyre was such a beautiful story. The book made me contemplate the idea of marriage and what it really means to both man and especially woman. Although set in the Victorian era, the messages it sends on the  formalities of woman being married is so relevant today. A great feminist read!

3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge Day 3

I was tagged (ALMOST A YEAR AGO) to do the 3 days 3 quotes challenge by Naomie @professionalfangrl. Thank you so much for tagging me and I’m sorry for this being hella late but hey better late than never(?)

THE RULES:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
  3. Nominate three new bloggers each day.

Day 3.jpg

An old favorite of mine. I take this quote to heart because I’ve always had trouble expressing who I am since I come from a VERY conservative family. I always felt broken because I never felt comfortable in my family and so it was difficult for me to be a “family oriented” person. This year, I’m making it a goal to tell someone my struggles, tell someone who I am and to EXPRESS myself.

YEAH I COMPLETED THE CHALLENGE

I love love LOVE Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. I read an essay by here that explained the reasoning of writing Sharp Objects and it made me love the book even more (it’s on her website). I love this quote because it always reminds me to stay positive because then you’ll receive positivity back. It’s like treat others how you would want to be treated.

I decided to pick a quote from a recent read:

Day 1.jpg

If I Was Your Girl had great quotes but this one stood out to me the most. I always felt sorry for myself for being who I am, shaming my family and always felt like a burden. This quote reminded me that I should be proud of who I am, inside and out. A beautiful quote from a beautiful book.
