I only bought three books in the last 3 months! Yay! Also, my background is my kitchen in all these photos because there’s no proper lighting in my house so enjoy that:).
Hunger by Roxane Gay
Have I read it?: Yes!
Thoughts: I read Hunger in May, and I just had to buy my own copy! Hunger is a memoir about the relationship between Roxane Gay and her body. It’s raw, powerful and moving book that will stick with you. I will forever rave about this book because I think it’s critical for all people, especially those who struggle with weight loss and trying to fit society’s ideas of beauty, to read.
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
Have I read it?: Yup!
Thoughts: I’m not going to lie, I only bought this book for the gorgeous cover! I’ve read Great Expectations, so I don’t feel too bad about this purchase. I want to collect all the editions of these covers because they are just so aesthetically pleasing to me! It’s an okay book, Pip as a character grew incredibly annoying, and I thought the themes weren’t too memorable, but overall it’s an easy read for those who are looking to read more classics!
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
Have I read it?: Nah
Predicted Rating: Maybe 3/5?!? Hopefully!
Thoughts: This is my next classic that I’m going to read! It’s short, so this shouldn’t take me too long to read. I also heard that people love this version more than Disney’s. I have to read this book in order to buy a new Penguin Classic, so that’s my motivation!
Let’s Talk about Books!
Whoop whoop here are the books I’ve bought since like January.
The Sun is Also the Star by Nicola Yoon: Unread. Features a Jamican immigrant and the other MC is Korean-American.
The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli: Read and loved already! My review can be found here. Fat MC with Anxiety, diverse side characters
Asking For It by Louise O’Neill: Unread. This book is about rape culture in Ireland.
We Are Okay by Nina LaCour: Unread A story about grief. Slight f/f romance I believe
Ask A Queer by Lindsay King-Miller: Currently Reading Basically what the title says!
#GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruse: Read A woman with no college degree and became a successful clothing business owner. Was ehh about it.
Simon Vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli: Read and amazing and please read. m/m cute romance and diverse side characters
Binti by Nnedi Okorafor: Honestly, not a clue but I know it’s sci-fi with POC characters!
Have you read any of these? Let me know down below!
I went to my new local Goodwill store and found a few gems.
I have been wanting to get into Jim Butcher and people said to start with the Dresden Files series. I unfortunately still need the first and second book in order to read these books. Hopefully I will get them soon! These were $1.99 each.
I was super ecstatic when I found this graphic novel. I’ve heard nothing but great things about East of West. I also heard that the graphics were over the top and spectacular(when flipping through it, they were right). I will probably read this graphic novel this month! This was $4.99.
YESS! I was so happy to see this there. I’ve been wanting to read the Virgin Suicides sense I first heard that it existed. Again, like above, I am probably going to dive into this book very soon:)! This cost $2.99.
All these books came just under $20 because I had a student discount. The goodwill that I went to mostly has books, so that’s why I found all these amazing titles. I wanted to buy more, but I had to contain myself.
Anyone else read or enjoyed these books/graphic novel?
