SUMMER READING BOOK BUCKET LIST

I’ taking two classes for the summer but I’m still going to try to kick summer’s ass when it comes to reading. I hope I can read all these books from the months of May (last week)-August (last week).

Heroes of Olympus Series by Rick Riordan (and honestly all of his other non-Percy Jackson books)

Image result for heroes of olympus seriesI read the first book 2 summers ago and I still want to continue with this series. It’s time to fully finish all of his books during the summer because I love how witty and corny his books are.  Maybe I’ll do a week of Riordan or something like that.

Every single book Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has published

Image result for chimamanda ngozi adichie booksI read The Thing Around Your Neck and We Should All Be Feminists  and I absolutely loved both books. I now want to read every single book that Adichie has published and I’m going to try to do it during the summer. Such a beautiful author with beautiful books.

The Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead

Image result for bloodlines series booksThese covers can honestly choke. Anyways, I read the first three books and never continued with the rest. I love this world (despite how incredibly cheesy these books are) and I really want complete the series. And yikes, I forgot most of the characters names but I’m sure everything will come back to me once I jump back to this world.

Shade Of Magic Series by V.E. Schwab

Image result for shades of magic seriesI haven’t started this series at all. However, I won a big ass sign framed book poster in a giveaway so I think it’s time to give these books a shot. And I know nothing about these books but I heard pretty good things about them!

THE BFF BOOK TAG

Hey everyone and welcome to another typical tag post! I will be doing the BFF book tag and I was tagged by Giovanna @bookcomablog! You should all check out her blog it’s AMAZING!

Now let’s get on with the tag!

SETTING THE EXAMPLE: a pair/group of book bff’s that you love?

Jason, Piper and Leo! I’ve only read the first book in the series but I ADORE the chemistry between these three. had. They never get mad at one another because they  understand what they’re going though, making them an amazing teamI can’t help but love a good trio.

CHILDHOOD BESTIE: Which book character would you like to grow up with?

This one is a weird one. I think it would have been awesome to grow up with Dorian (Throne of Glass). We both like to read, and he reminds me of my old childhood friend. He’s sweet, charming, hilarious and I think him and I would make a great duo.

FRENEMY: Which book character would bring out your competitive side?

Annabeth (Percy Jackson series) and I would deffinitly be frenemies. However, I would hate her because she’s perfect and she has Percy and I would just be jelly. BUT I would want to be friends with her with those same reasons.

FASHION GURU: Who would be the bestie whose closet you’d want to raid or would you want to go on a shopping spree with?

Isabella (The Mortal Instruments) is goals tbh.

THE BAD INFLUENCE: Which character would you want to commit a small act of rebellion with? (Go skinny dipping, sneak into a movie, have a drag race with, etc.)

YES! Rose (The Vampire Academy Series) would be partners in crime.

BLOOD BROTHERS: Which character would you want to be your surrogate big brother/sister? (You can do both if you want!)

I love how Ari and Janco (Poison Study Series) treat Yeleana. Although not by blood, theyb are amazing brothers to her and I would want someone like them to always have my back.

MOTHER HEN: Which character would you want to be by your side when you’re having a bad day to cheer you up?

All the characters call Sydney (Bloodlines series) the Mother Hen because she is always putting everyone before herself (also driving everyone around). Although she may be a little awkward about it, I think she can help put me in a good mood.

THE COUNSELOR: Which character would you go to for relationship advice (or) confide a secret to?

To be honest, I don’t know. I would go to Kestrel (Winner’s Curse) for relationship advice  (even though she got a lot of relationship problems), but I am not sure if I would confide a secret to her… She just seems like a person who would know more of how to deal with men. Though now I think about it, maybe I would confide a secret to her.

MORE THAN FRIENDS: Who would be your book bf/gf? (if you like both genders, you can choose one of each, but only one choice per gender!)

Simon (The Mortal Instruments)…oh Simon I love you. He’s witty, caring, selfless, and just a perfect human being.

Also, I hate to reuse a character but I would so date Isabella. She’s charming, feisty, powerful… like who wouldn’t want to date her?

Cram-thon Wrap Up

3Hey everybody!

Although I didn’t meet much of the challenges, I did end up finishing 4 books in total. I’m quite proud of myself because these are the books that I DNF’ed for a while, and I finally did!

I’m not going to say much about a lot of these, since I made/will be making individual reviews for each of them.

1. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson {Review}

Beautiful amazing world building, and relatable characters. The magic system is unique, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

5/5 Blueberry muffins

2. The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan {Review}

It’s Rick Riordan…not much to say.

5/5 Blueberry Muffins

3. Yes Please by Amy Poehler.

This was funny an sweet. I’m not going to give a rating for this book since it’s an autobiography, and I don’t like criticizing those types of books. I will say that Amy is extremely relatable, and I wish she was my older sister (though, don’t get me wrong, the one I have now is perfect). The Parks and Recreation parts were amazing and I got a little excited each time she mention Adam Scott.

4. The Wide Window By Lemony Snicket

I’ll be making a review for the first three books in the series in the future. Overall this book was good. Some parts bug me such as Snicket having to explain common expressions and some of the characters frustrates but other than that, it was a great nostalgic read.

3.75/5 Blueberry Muffins

Not bad for someone who was busy laying around, watching Netflix and Youtube videos.

Review: The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

2

Publication Date: 2010
Publisher: Disney-Hyperin
Format: Audiobook
Page Count: 557
Synopsis: Jason has a problem.
He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper, and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?
   Piper has a secret.
Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare about his being in trouble. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits during the school trip, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.
Leo has a way with tools.
When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about, and some camper who;s gone missing. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god. Does this have anything to do with Jason’s amnesia, or the fact that Leo keeps seeing ghosts?

Review

What an adventure.

After months of listening the audiobook, I finally finished The Lost Hero. However, for now on, I will be reading the rest of the series is physical format because I think I would read faster.

I think I might be falling in love with this series, despite the fact I only read the first book. It’s surprising because I thought I would like the series less than the Percy Jackson series, since Percy is one of the best male protagonist of all time, and it’s pretty hard to top him. But when I started listening, I grew fondness of Jason, Piper, and especially Leo.

An aspect that stood out to me was the amazing character development. In the beginning, they were all insecure, almost haunted by their pass. When the story progresses, they became kickass heroes and heroins that I grew to love.

Another great thing is that they all have distinct personalities. Jason is obviously the serious one, but he has a lot of heart. In my opinion, Piper is the most courageous one and had the most character development. And then Leo is the humorous one who tries to bring light to all situations.

I’m not going to say much about the world, since it’s the same as the Percy Jackson series. The plot is quite different, and I think I like this plot better than Riordan’s old series. It’s more complex, and introduces a new “race” of demigods, the Romans. I can’t wait to see how the plot unfolds in the next installments.

I also liked the transition between the two series. Riordan makes clear connections between the two and makes the story even more interesting.

I know this classifies as a middle grade series, but I feel as if these are more mature. If you’re someone who reads only YA, I still think you should give these a shot. The Heroes of Olympus series (well so far) doesn’t just deal with the primary conflict, but YA themes as well. The writing also seems like YA in my opinion.

I’m wanting to pick up the next installment soon. I have most of the series, and I’m excited to see what happens. I know that more characters will be introduced, and I hope the are just as great as Jason, Piper, and Leo.

SERIES THAT I WANT TO READ/FINISH BY THE END OF THE YEAR

Although this isn’t a tag necessary, I recently have been going over my year of reading and there are a lot of book series that I want to start and finish . I haven’t read a lot of books this year unfortunately due to my procrastina- I mean busy schedule so I thought if I put it out there, I’ll finally finish these series  Here are the Top 5 series that I want to read/finish by the end of the year.

Heroes of Olympus series (Started)

61

I reread the Percy Jackson series to prepare myself for these books. I find it ridiculous that I haven’t even read past the first book(though I am enjoying it). I want to make it a goal to finish this series so that I can move on to the Kan Chronicles in 2016.

 Mistborn Trilogy (Started)

mistborn-covers

This is the same situation as the Heroes of Olympus series. I have been reading the first book for OVER A YEAR and I still haven’t finished it yet. It’s weird because I’ve been loving it and I still remember everything about the book. I have under 100 pages so hopefully this will get finished soon

Bloodlines series (Started)

BookCoverBloodlinesSeries

Same situation again…do you see a pattern? Though in this situation, I’m having a hard time reading Bloodlines. It’s crazy because I absolutely love Richelle Mead and LOVED all the books that she has written.I don’t known why I can’t get through this one. Perhaps it has to do with  the different POV because I was so used to Rose in the Vampire Academy series. People say that they also experienced this but when they passed the second book, the books really took off. I WILL FINISH THIS.

4.Legend Trilogy (Started)

Uni

I read and really liked Legend. I’m about 100 pages into Prodigy and I don’t know if I am not liking the plot so much or if it’s the characters (June). I think my expectations of the second book were really high because of the reviews and also Legend was really good so it’s kind of hard to top that. BUT I shall finish what I started…because I am still invested in Day’s POV.

5. The School for Good and Evil Trilogy (Have not started)

Giveaway - Series

I have not started this series but I own the first two books. When I heard about this about kids being separated into two groups, the heroes vs the Villains I couldn’t help but immediately buy these books…full price. Hopefully I’ll start the first book in September.

Will I really finish all these? Well…lets just hope.
