Friday Reads 8/3/2018|Reading Some Arcs!

Happy Friday! Here are all the books I’m currently making my way through!

Hearts UnbrokenHearts Unbroken by Cynthia Leitich Smith

Goodreads Summary: When Louise Wolfe’s first real boyfriend mocks and disrespects Native people in front of her, she breaks things off and dumps him over e-mail. It’s her senior year, anyway, and she’d rather spend her time with her family and friends and working on the school newspaper. The editors pair her up with Joey Kairouz, the ambitious new photojournalist, and in no time the paper’s staff find themselves with a major story to cover: the school musical director’s inclusive approach to casting The Wizard of Oz has been provoking backlash in their mostly white, middle-class Kansas town. From the newly formed Parents Against Revisionist Theater to anonymous threats, long-held prejudices are being laid bare and hostilities are spreading against teachers, parents, and students — especially the cast members at the center of the controversy, including Lou’s little brother, who’s playing the Tin Man. As tensions mount at school, so does a romance between Lou and Joey — but as she’s learned, “dating while Native” can be difficult. In trying to protect her own heart, will Lou break Joey’s?

Thoughts so Far: [Pg 55] This book is fine and the discussions are relevant but I’m not liking the main character or the potential love interest. I hope that changes by the end of the book. I’m loving the journalism aspect because it brings back memories when I was an editor for my high school newspaper.

Truth and Lies (DI Amy Winter, #1)Truth and Lies by Caroline Mitchell

Goodreads Summary: DI Amy Winter is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her highly respected police officer father. But when a letter arrives from the prison cell of Lillian Grimes, one half of a notorious husband-and-wife serial-killer team, it contains a revelation that will tear her life apart. Responsible for a string of heinous killings decades ago, Lillian is pure evil. A psychopathic murderer. And Amy’s biological mother. Now, she is ready to reveal the location of three of her victims—but only if Amy plays along with her twisted game.
While her fellow detectives frantically search for a young girl taken from her mother’s doorstep, Amy must confront her own dark past. Haunted by blurred memories of a sister who sacrificed herself to save her, Amy faces a race against time to uncover the missing bodies.
But what if, from behind bars, Grimes has been pulling the strings even tighter than Amy thought? And can she overcome her demons to prevent another murder?

Thoughts so far: [1%] I’m not very far into this one so I don’t have any thoughts. However, the summary is intriguing and the newspaper article definitely grabbed my attention!
